Technology Evaluation Rubrics

It proved to be a daunting task to find a research paper on the importance of rubrics to evaluate programs and websites.  I found success after trying my search with the Google Scholar search engine and came across an article titled A Comprehensive Evaluation Rubric for Assessing Instructional Apps.  The article details the need for rubrics when assessing the quality of educational apps and explains how “rubrics designed for evaluating the instructional implications of educational apps are scarce” (p. 21).  Also scarce are articles written about the scarcity of rubrics, which I found almost impossible to find more than a handful of papers.  According to Lee and Cherner (2015):
“To conduct this review, a comprehensive search was performed with Google Scholar, ERIC, and EBSCOhost, using “rubric”, “education software”, “multimedia”, “usability test”, “interactivity”, and “interface” as search keywords to locate research studies relevant to the evaluation rubric for assessing educational apps. Although several hundred articles were yielded from the search re- sults, the majority of the articles addressed the evaluation of computer-based applications, web- sites, or CD-ROM, and only two articles (e.g. Buckler, 2012; Walker, 2010) employed rubrics to assess the quality of educational apps. However, the rubrics they put forward are not comprehen- sive and include specific shortcomings” (p. 23)
